Niki Wuchinger
Nikolaus "Niki" Wuchinger (also Nicky Wuchinger , born July 23, 1923 in Banat , Romania ; † June 21, 2020 in Zell am See ) was an Austrian musician .
Life
Niki Wuchinger was drafted into the Wehrmacht and was initially stationed in Russia, where he saved twelve Jews from certain death through skillful interpreting. Then he played in Prague as a trumpeter in the troop support. There he met his future wife, Lucia. After the marriage, the two found their way to Linz on foot . There the Americans used him for weekend shows in their jazz clubs . In 1951 he came to Saalfelden . Here, too, he played in the barracks for the US officers, and from 1953 also in the Flamingo Club . Wuchinger later went to the winter season, for example to Zürs am Arlberg . In summer he always performed in the Grand Hotel in Zell am See. Wuchinger played with Fatty George , Oscar Klein and Joe Zawinul . In Munich he met Max Greger .
Wuchinger appeared as a musician in cinema comedies in the early 1970s such as “ Reverend Turns a Close Eye ” and “ Always Trouble with Reverend ” with Peter Weck , Georg Thomalla , Eddi Arent , Otto Schenk and Theo Lingen .
Four of Wuchinger's five children became musicians; For years he toured Europe with his family as "Niki's Albatros". His daughter Gilla works with the producer Frank Farian , among others .
Wuchinger was active as a musician in various formations ( Latin , Swing , Dixieland ), for example with the Flamingos , and also with the "Dogstone Dixie Six" a fixture. In September 2008 he released the album “StandArts” together with Harry Baierl. He died on June 21, 2020, a month before his 97th birthday.
