The Niklaskogel ( 2791  m above sea level ), also Niklaskopf , is an insignificant mountain peak of the Dorferkamm in the Venediger group in East Tyrol ( Austria ). It is located in the north of the municipality of Prägraten am Großvenediger . Neighboring peaks are the Türml in the northwest and the Schlüsselspitze in the south.

location

The Niklaskogel is characterized by craggy flanks that slope down to the Maurer Valley with the Mauer Bach in the west and to the Hinterbichler Dorfertal with the Dorfer Bach in the east . It is located a little north of the center of the Dorferkamm and less than a kilometer outside the Hohe Tauern National Park . In the northeast of the Niklaskopf is the Türml ( 2845  m above sea level ) with the Türmljoch of the same name ( 2772  m above sea level ), through which the closest hiking trail, the Schweriner Weg, leads. To the south of the Niklaskogel lies the Schlüsselspitze ( 2778  m above sea level ), from which the Niklaskogel is separated by the Schlüsselscharte ( 2591  m above sea level ).

Promotion opportunities

The ascent to the Niklaskogel takes place over the Türmljoch, whereby the ascent from the yoke leads to the left under the east side of the rock structure of the Türml to a saddle located to the south. From here the ascent follows the course of the ridge, with the Niklaskogel being reached after around an hour from the Türmljoch via an easy walking area. The Niklaskogel was climbed for the first time on July 28, 1913 by J. Dorn and Th. Husche via this path. From the Niklaskogel, it is also possible to cross the ridge of the Schlüsselspitze, following the south ridge of the Niklaskogel on the descent and taking the steep north ridge from the Schlüsselscharte to the Schlüsselspitze ( II ).
