Nicodemus Joseph von Podbielski

Nicodemus Joseph von Podbielski (born September 11, 1780 in Zaremby (Skorki near Rosochaty in Poland), † July 20, 1844 in Paderborn ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of the landlord and treasurer of Łomża Dionysius von Podbielski and his wife Anna, née von Skarzinska.

Military career

Podbielski joined the Hussar Regiment "von Günther" of the Prussian Army in 1798 and was promoted to second lieutenant until mid-January 1806 . During the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Preussisch Eylau and was wounded in the Battle of Heilsberg . After the Peace of Tilsit he received the order Pour le Mérite on July 18, 1808 and was transferred to the West Prussian Uhlan Regiment on November 1, 1808. There, his patent as second lieutenant on June 19, 1810 was backdated to November 21, 1805. By mid-June 1813, Podbielski rose to the rank of staff assistant master .

During the Wars of Liberation he fought at Großgörschen and acquired the Iron Cross II class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV class at Bautzen . He then fought at Großbeeren , Dennewitz and Leipzig as well as the battles at Borna and Glienicke, where he also received the Iron Cross 1st class. In addition, Podbielski took part in the sieges of Lille and Soissons and in the assault on Hertogenbusch.

On March 7, 1815 he was transferred to the 4th Uhlan Regiment . There he was honored on May 25, 1825 major and regular staff officer and in the same year with the service cross . On December 28, 1830 he became the leader of the newly established combined Reserve Landwehr Cavalry Regiment. He was commissioned on March 30, 1836, initially to lead the 6th Uhlan Regiment and on October 17, 1836 Podbielski was appointed commander. In this position he advanced to lieutenant colonel at the end of March 1837 and received the Order of the Red Eagle III on January 18, 1838 . Class with a bow. On March 30, 1839, he became a colonel with a patent from April 10, 1839 . Granted the character of major general, Podbielski was retired from military service on March 29, 1842 with a pension of 1750 thalers. After his departure, he received a bonus of 100 thalers on July 27, 1843. He died on July 20, 1844 in Paderborn.

Podbielski married on May 9, 1808 in Lomza Bogumila Apollonie Theophile von Baranowska (1791-1880). The couple had several children:
