Nikola Kovačević ( Serbian - Cyrillic Никола Ковачевић ; born February 14, 1983 in Kraljevo , Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian volleyball player .
Career
Kovačević started his career in 1998 at Ribnica Kraljevo. In 2003 he moved to OK Red Star Belgrade . After he had played a season in Greece in 2006/07 with GS Lamia , he reached third place with the Serbian national team at the 2007 European Championship . He was then committed by the Italian club RPA Perugia . With the national team, Kovačević reached the final in the 2008 World League . He then took part in the Olympic tournament in Beijing , which ended for Serbia with a 2: 3 defeat against the eventual Olympic champion USA in the quarter-finals. In the 2009 World League , Serbia reached the final again. Kovačević played again in Greece for Aris Thessaloniki in 2009/10 . At the 2010 World Cup , the national team came third. In the following season, the outside attacker was active for the Italian club Andreoli Latina . In 2011 he achieved his greatest success so far when he won the European Championship with the national team in the final against Italy . Then Kovačević moved to the Russian club Gubernia Nizhny Novgorod . In 2012 he and his younger brother Uroš were part of the Serbs' squad for the London Olympics and finished ninth. After further positions at Asseco Resovia Rzeszów (Polish champion), Ural Ufa , Marmi Lanza Verona , Fudan University Shanghai (Chinese champion), Paris Volley (French runner-up) and VK Lokomotiv Novosibirsk , Kovačević landed at the German champion Berlin Recycling Volleys in 2016 . In January 2017, his contract with the Berliners was terminated.
