Nikolai Gustawowitsch Pilar von Pilchau
Nikolai Gustawowitsch Pilar von Pilchau ( Russian : Пилар фон Пильхау, Николай Густавович; born May 30, 1831 in Kiev , † January 26, 1886 in Nice ) was Lieutenant General of the Imperial Russian Army .
Career
His military career began on May 26, 1849 as a cornet in the Chevalier Guard . In 1850 he was promoted to lieutenant and in 1852 took over the post of adjutant to Count Peter Andreas Kleinmichel . In 1854 he was promoted to staff captain, followed in 1855 as an adjutant to General Iakov Rostovtsev (1803-1860), who exercised command of cadet training. On November 18, 1856, he took part in the first active military service in a regiment . In 1857 he was promoted to Rittmeister , his next promotion to colonel followed in 1860. When he was appointed major general in 1866 , he was given command of the cavalry . When he was promoted to lieutenant general , he was released from active military service and went to medical treatment . In 1880 he settled in the south of France and died on January 26, 1886 in Nice .
Origin and family
Nikolai Gustav came from the German-Baltic noble family Pilar von Pilchau ( Pallifer family ) from which several Russian generals emerged. His father was the Russian Lieutenant General Gustav Friedrich Pilar von Pilchau (1748–1826), whose older brother Karl Magnus Pilar von Pilchau (1791–1861) was also a Russian Lieutenant General. His cousin was the Russian Lieutenant General Theodor Kotzebue-Pilar von Pilchau (1848–1911). Nikolai married Countess Elisabeth von Kleinmichel (1833-1896), she was the daughter of Count Kleinmichel, with whom Nikolai had served as adjutant.
