Gustav Friedrich Pilar von Pilchau
Gustav Friedrich Pilar von Pilchau ( Russian Густав Фёдорович Пилар фон Пильхау , * May 2, 1798 , † June 27, 1862 in the Kharkov governorate ) was a German-Baltic nobleman who was in the service of the Russian Empire . He was Lieutenant General in the Imperial Russian Army and a national politician in the Estonia Governorate .

Gustav Friedrich Pilar of Pilchau joined in 1812 as a lieutenant in the active service of the Russian Imperial Army and served in the 34th Cuirassier - Regiment . He distinguished himself especially in the battles of Smolensk and Vitebsk and was highly decorated . Another combat mission took him to the Battle of Borodino , he was seriously wounded during a reported attack by the Russian armed forces. After the end of the Napoleonic Wars , he took over several military posts. As a lieutenant colonel , he became the commander of the Novgorod Cuirassier Regiment in 1827 . From 1828 to 1832 he was the commander of another cuirassier regiment. His next combat mission took place during the November Uprising in Poland , and he was again honored for special bravery. In 1832 he was promoted to major general. From 1837 to 1845 he was chief of the cavalry districts I – IV in the Ukrainian military district . As Lieutenant General (1844) he was in command of the 1st Cuirassier Division from 1846 to 1847 . In 1850 he was head of the military districts in the governorates Nowogrod , Vitebsk and Mogilev appointed. From 1852 he was inspector of the "Department of Military Districts" in the War Ministry. In 1856 he said goodbye and spent the rest of his life on his estate in the Kharkov Governorate .
Origin and family
Gustav Friedrich Pilar von Pilchau came from a German-Baltic noble family. The foundation goes back to Wenzel Pilar von Pilchau, who fought as a German mercenary for the Swedish crown against Russia in 1656 and then stayed in Estonia. Friedrich Gustav's parents were the District Administrator and later State Councilor Wilhelm Friedrich Pilar von Pilchau (1761-1819), Lord of Jöggis, Paleifer, Orks, Pall and Kaesal in Estonia and Magdalena Wilhelmine Staël von Holstein (1771-1849). His older brother was the Russian Lieutenant General Karl Magnus Pilar von Pilchau (1798–1862). Gustav Friedrich was married to Barbara Iwanowna Dunina (1799–1890), they had two sons:

- Nikolai Gustawowitsch Pilar of Pilchau ( Russian Николай Густавович Пилар-фон-Пильхау , 1831-1886), a Russian lieutenant general, married to Elisabeth Petrovna Countess Kleinmichel ( Russian Елисавета Петровна Пилар-фон-Пильхау, гр. Клейнмихель , 1833-1896)
