Nikolai Murzakewicz

Nikolai Murzakewicz even Mursakewitsch , ( Russian Николай Никифорович Мурзакевич * April 21 jul. / 3. May  1806 greg. In Smolensk ; † October 15 jul. / 27. October  1883 greg. In Odessa ) was a Russian historian , archaeologist and library director .

Life

Nikolai Murzakewicz was a son of the clergyman Nikifor Adrianowitsch Murzakewicz (1769-1834) and Anna Iwanowa Solnschewa († 1812). He completed his training at the Smolensk Theological Seminary and Moscow University .

He was then Gymnasialprofessor for Russian History and later director of the Lyceum Richelieuu in Odessa. Murzakewicz was a privy councilor . He was also the founder, secretary and vice-president and director of the Odessa Society of History and Antiquities . Under his leadership, around 130 articles on numismatics , history and archeology were published in the company's publication organ .

Memberships

Since 1847 he was a corresponding member of the Society for History and Archeology of the Baltic Sea Provinces of Russia .
