The Nikolaus- und Franz-Xaver-Kirche in Ottmachau (Polish: Otmuchów , Opole Voivodeship) on the western outskirts between Szkolna and Lompy streets was built between 1691 and 1694. The baroque building replaced the Gothic St. Nicholas Church, which had previously been demolished.

history

The Gothic church, originally dedicated solely to St. Nicholas , was first mentioned in 1235. From 1386 until the Ottmachauer Stift was relocated to Neisse in 1477, it served as a collegiate church . Because of the damage suffered during the Hussite Wars , it was demolished. The reconstruction only took place from 1691 to 1694 as a donation by Prince-Bishop Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg . On September 6, 1694, it was consecrated by the Wroclaw Auxiliary Bishop Johann Brunetti and received the second patronage of St. Francis Xavier , the patron saint of the founder. The Neiss master builder Johann Peter Tobler ( Dobler ) from Vienna provided the design for the two-tower basilica baroque church .

Another Willmann painting "The Beheading of John the Baptist" adorns one of the side altars. Karl Dankwart created the ceiling paintings until 1694, the Ottmachau sculptor Johann Joseph Weiß († 1707) several carvings.

There are galleries above the side aisles , connected to the central nave by arcades.

The pulpit is attributed to the local sculptor Johann Josef Weiss. On the canopy above the pulpit stands the figure of Salvator Mundi with the globe in his hand. An inscription reads: Qui habet aures audiat (“He who has ears hear”). On the opposite side is the bishop's box with the coat of arms of Prince-Bishop Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg .

The organ gallery is located between the towers. Because of the window in the middle, the organ front is in two parts. The organ is equipped with 3 manuals , 50 registers and 2810 pipes .
