Nicholas III (Troppau-Leobschütz)
Nicholas III von Troppau (Czech Mikuláš III. Opavský ; * around 1339 ; † July 9, 1394 ) was 1367–1377 Duke of Opava and 1377–1394 Duke of Leobschütz .
Life
Nicholas III von Troppau came from the Troppau branch of the Bohemian Přemyslids . His parents were Nikolaus II von Troppau and his second wife Hedwig († 1359), daughter of Duke Konrad I von Oels († 1366).
After the death of his father in 1365, Nicholas III. and his three brothers initially shared the inherited possessions. When it was divided in 1367, Nicholas III. and his younger brothers Wenceslaus I and Přemysl I shares in the Duchy of Opava. The eldest brother John I received the Duchy of Ratibor as the sole heir, making him the progenitor of the Přemyslid line of Opava-Ratibor. It was not until 1377 that the territories of the Duchy of Opava were divided, with Nicholas III. and Wenceslaus I, the Duchy of Leobschütz was spun off and the Duchy of Opava Přemysl I, which had been reduced in size, was given.
Since Nicholas III. Constantly in financial difficulties, he pledged Leobschütz , Zuckmantel , Hultschin and Kranstädt to his uncle Konrad II von Oels .
Nicholas III died unmarried and without descendants in 1394. Heir was his youngest brother Přemysl I, who managed to redeem Leobschütz.
