Nikolaus Wiplinger

Nikolaus Wiplinger (born December 3, 1937 in Haslach ; † June 12, 2018 in Linz ) was an Austrian concert pianist and professor at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz .

Life

Nikolaus Wiplinger grew up in Haslach and attended the Episcopal Gymnasium Petrinum . He then began a pedagogical training and studied piano at the Mozarteum , he received theory lessons from Helmut Eder . At the Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna he studied piano in Josef Dichler's class.

This was followed by concerts at home and abroad as well as productions and concert broadcasts on ORF . As a soloist he has appeared with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz , the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg , the Tonkünstler Orchestra Lower Austria and the Cairo Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber musician, he has worked with ensembles of the Vienna Symphony and the Vienna Philharmonic, as well as the Mozarteum string trio. For example, he made guest appearances at the Salzburg Mozart Weeks and the Linz Bruckner Festival , and concert tours have taken him through Europe, China, Japan and Korea.

From 1959 to 1997 he worked at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz , which later became the Anton Bruckner Private University, initially as a répétiteur and later as a professor for the piano major. From 1995 to 2010 he was also director of a series of concerts in the former Pulgarn Monastery .

Nikolaus Wiplinger died on June 12, 2018 at the age of 80. He was the brother of the writer Peter Paul Wiplinger .
