Nina Darnton

Nina J. Darnton (born July 24, 1943 in New York City ) is an American journalist , film critic and writer .

Life

Nina Darnton received a Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Wisconsin. She has two Masters degrees, one in Psychology with a specialization in child development from The New School and one in Acting from Columbia University . In the mid-1980s she worked for the New York Times and wrote not only film reviews, but also the column "At the Movies". She was a chief film critic for the New York Post and a fashion journalist for Newsweek .

Darnton temporarily lived in Nigeria , Kenya , Poland , Spain and England . She incorporated her experiences from five years in Africa into her novels. Her debut novel An African Affair, published in 2011, played in Africa. For her second novel about a mother and her relationship with a murdering daughter, she was inspired by the case of Amanda Knox . The book has been translated into several languages, including French, Spanish and German. After a translation by Eva Bonné , it was published by Goldmann Verlag in Munich in 2017 under the title death stitches .

She is married to the journalist John Darnton . They both live in New York City and have two daughters and a son.
