Nina Kemppel (born October 14, 1970 in Boulder ) is a former American cross-country skier .

Career

Kemppel ran her first World Cup race in Lahti in March 1990 , which she finished in 57th place over 5 km freestyle. At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , she finished 56th over 5 km classic and 52nd in the subsequent pursuit. Her best placements at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1993 in Falun were 27th place over 5 km classic and eighth place with the relay and at the Olympic Winter Games 1994 in Lillehammer 27th place over 30 km classic and tenth place with relay. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1995 in Thunder Bay , she came 42nd in the pursuit, 35th place over 30 km freestyle and 32nd place over 5 km classic and 15 km classic. In the 1995/96 season she won 13 World Cup starts eight times and achieved her best overall result with 34th place in the overall World Cup. Her best result at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1997 in Trondheim was 27th place over 30 km classic.

At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , Kemppel took 67th place over 5 km classic and 52nd place over 15 km classic. Her best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein were 34th place over 30 km classic and 14th place with the relay. In the 2000/01 season she won her first victory in the Continental Cup in Vernon over 10 km freestyle and achieved her best individual result in the World Cup in Soldier Hollow with 14th place in the skiathlon . At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2001 in Lahti , she ran to 39th place in sprint, 35th place over 15 km classic, 23rd place over 10 km classic and 22nd place in skiathlon. After finishing second over 10 km classic at the Continental Cup in Fairbanks at the beginning of the 2001/02 season, she won the Continental Cup in Silver Star over 5 km classic and 10 km freestyle. Her best placings at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City were 15th place over 30 km classic and 13th place with the relay. She completed her 110th and last individual World Cup race in March 2002 in Lillehammer at the Birkebeinerrennet , which she finished in 41st place
