Nkandla ( English Nkandla Local Municipality ) is a municipality in the King Cetshwayo District , KwaZulu-Natal Province in South Africa with its seat in Nkandla . Zandile Mncandi-Mpanza is the mayor.

The community name is derived from the isiZulu word for a hiding place. In times of war, for example during the Bambatha uprising, the Zulu warriors used the forest there as protection from their enemies.

In 2011 the community had 114,416 inhabitants on an area of ​​1827 square kilometers. The main places in the municipality are Babanango , Nkandla and Vumanhlamvu .

In Nxamalala there is a residence of President Jacob Zuma , who comes from Nkandla.
