Mthonjaneni ( English Mthonjaneni Local Municipality ) is a municipality in the King Cetshwayo District , KwaZulu-Natal Province in South Africa with its seat in Melmoth .
The community name is derived from the isiZulu word for a source. The area of Mthonjaneni was 1,002 square kilometers in 2011. In 2011 it had 47,818 inhabitants.
The main places in the parish are Melmoth, Ekuthuleni, and KwaMagwaza .
In 2016 parts of the community Ntambanana (with the community seat Bhukhanana ) came to Mthonjaneni, so that the area increased to 1639 km².
