List of grape varieties

Nocera is a red wine that is cultivated in the Italian regions of Calabria and Sicily . It is generally not made as a single variety, but used as a blending partner (e.g. in the DOC wines Faro , Bivongi and Sant'Anna di Isola di Capo Rizzuto ). In the 1990s, 104 hectares of vineyards were raised.

Despite having similar synonyms, it is not related to the white variety Carricante (also called Nocera Bianca).

The American Harold Olmo used the variety to breed the famous Red Globe table grape .

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is woolly hairy, greenish with a slightly bronze tinge. The light green young leaves are slightly hairy.
  • The medium-sized leaves are five-lobed and moderately deeply indented. The stem bay is open in a V-shape. The sheet is serrated to a point. The teeth are medium-sized compared to the grape varieties.
  • The conical grape is shouldered, medium-sized and has loose berries. The elongated berries are medium-sized and bluish-black in color. The aroma of the berry is quite neutral and simple.

The grape variety ripens about 30 days after the Gutedel and is therefore late-ripening.
