Nolana confinis is a species of the genus Nolana inthe nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Nolana confinis is a 5 to 120 cm high, prostrate or, rarely, upright plant that grows as a subshrub or rarely as an annual herbaceous plant . The branches are leafy and hairy with woolly, non-glandular, long and unbranched as well as short, glandular and branched trichomes . The leaves are in clusters and are 0.3 to 1.3 (rarely up to 2.5 cm) long. They are inversely egg-shaped to linear-spatulate and succulent . The leaf margins are bent back to strongly bent back.

The flowers are solitary on 2 to 15 mm long pedicels . The calyx is 4 to 5 (rarely up to 6 mm) long, cup-shaped, with five unequal, upright and lanceolate calyx teeth. The calyx teeth are half as long as the calyx itself. The crown is 1 to 1.7 cm long, funnel-shaped and colored white to blue. The inside of the corolla tube is hairy. The stamens are divided into two longer and three shorter ones, or all stamens are of unequal length. The stamens are not widened at the base and are rarely covered with trichomes. The flower base is weakly bowl-shaped. The stylus is gyno-basic and just as long as the stamens. The scar is cephalic or lobed.

The fruits stand on bent-back flower stalks and are accompanied by an enlarging calyx. They consist of five (rarely up to nine) egg-shaped and unevenly shaped partial fruits.

Occurrence

Nolana confinis occurs from the Peruvian region of Arequipa to the Chilean region of Antofagasta and grows on dry mountain slopes at altitudes between 300 and 3000 m.
