The low-lying bell winch ( Nolana humifusa ) is a plant type from the genus Nolana in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). The species, which is partly cultivated as an ornamental plant, is native to Peru .

description

The low-lying bell wind is a creeping or semi-prostrate, completely or almost hairless perennial plant . The thin, several decimeter long branches arise from a hardly woody, strong main shoot. The leaves are oblique ovoid to almost circular. The tip is somewhat blunt, the base is rounded or tapered into the approximately 1 cm long petiole and occasionally slightly hairy. The leaf blade is usually around 2 to 3 cm long, but it can also be longer or shorter and is half as wide as it is long.

The flowers are on thin, about 1.5 cm long peduncles, which are stronger and curved on the fruit and extend to 2 cm. The 1 cm long chalice is broadly bell-shaped and angled by a clearly visible fold above each notch in the rim of the chalice . The approx. 5 mm long calyx lobes are ovate-pointed. The blue crown is about 1.5 cm long or a little longer. Occasionally purple stripes can be seen in the corolla tube.

The fruits consist of five nut-like partial fruits that are finely pitted, angled and about 5 mm long.

Distribution and locations

The species is endemic to the Peruvian departments of La Libertad , Ancash and Lima . It grows on sandy or stony loam soil.

Systematics

Phylogenetic studies have shown that the species within the genus is closest related to Nolana aticoana , Nolana chancoana , Nolana chapiensis , Nolana inflata , Nolana laxa , Nolana lezamae , Nolana plicata , Nolana scaposa , Nolana spathulata , Nolana urubambaianae and Nol . These species, which are found exclusively in Peru, form a monophyletic clade .

use

Nolana humifusa was introduced to Europe from Peru as early as 1760, seeds are occasionally available commercially, but no named varieties are known. The species is rarely used in Germany as an ornamental plant in summer flower beds, rock gardens and as a ground cover. It is cultivated as an annual.
