Norbert Koester

Norbert Köster (* 1967 in Ibbenbüren ) is a German Roman Catholic clergyman, professor of middle and modern church history .

Life

Köster was born as the second youngest child of the Bundestag member Gottfried Köster and has five sisters. He studied theology in Münster (1986–1988 and 1989–1991) and at the Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem (1988/1989) and was ordained a deacon in 1992. In 1993, after the diaconate year in Billerbeck, he was ordained a priest and he became a chaplain in Sendenhorst (1993–1997) and Warendorf (1997–2000, also diocesan curate of the DPSG ). In 2000 he became head of the German student residence in Münster. From 2005 to 2007 he was diocesan youth pastor and diocesan president of the BDKJ . In 2006 he received his doctorate in church history. In 2007 he was released from his post-doctoral studies and was a subsidiar in St. Josef (Münster-Kinderhaus) and St. Marien (Münster-Sprakel). From 2013 to 2016 he was an academic senior counselor at the Chair of Medieval and Modern Church History. In May 2015 he completed his habilitation and was appointed private lecturer . From 2015 to 2018 he succeeded Norbert Kleyboldt as vicar general of the diocese of Münster. Before that, he was about to accept a call to the theological faculty at the University of Linz . From October 1, 2018, Klaus Winterkamp succeeded him in the office of Vicar General .

From 2016 to 2019 Köster was a member of the cathedral chapter at St. Paulus Cathedral in Münster.

Since November 1, 2019, he has held the professorship for historical theology and its didactics at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the Westphalian Wilhelms-Universität Münster .
