Norbert Neururer

Norbert Neururer (born February 27, 1926 in Bregenz- Vorloster; † October 11, 2014 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and federal civil servant . From 1969 to 1980 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and from 1988 to 1990 mayor of the city of Bregenz.

education and profession

Neururer attended elementary school Bregenz vineyards and then graduated from secondary school Dornbirn , where he war Matura took off. He was committed to the Reich Labor Service in 1944 and subsequently served in World War II. After his return from the war in 1945, he studied geography and history at the University of Innsbruck and graduated in 1948 with the teaching examination for geography and history and the graduation to Mag. Phil. He also passed the additional test for German for teaching at secondary schools. After his probationary year at the Bregenz grammar school, he worked as a secondary school teacher in Rieden-Vorloster from 1948 to 1950. After a short period of unemployment, he worked for the state school board and in 1951 became a career advisor for high school graduates at the state employment office in Vorarlberg. In 1971 he took over the management of the state employment office in Bregenz in 1970, where he worked until his retirement on March 1, 1987.

Politics and functions

Neururer joined the SPÖ in 1952 and was district party chairman of the SPÖ Bregenz from 1967 to 1989. He was also city party chairman of the SPÖ Bregenz until March 1992 and from 1972 to 1978 deputy state party chairman of the SPÖ Vorarlberg. Furthermore, he held the function of a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Vorarlberg, was parliamentary group chairman of the SPÖ Bregenz, member of the state party presidium of the SPÖ Vorarlberg and member of the state party leadership of the SPÖ Vorarlberg. He was elected a substitute member of the Bregenz city council in 1960 and rose to become a member of the city council in 1965, to which he was a member until 1994. He also served as Vice Mayor from 1985 to 1988 and was then Mayor of Bregenz from 1988 to 1990. As a member of the Bregenz constituency, he represented the SPÖ from October 29, 1969 to September 3, 1980 in the Vorarlberg state parliament and was area spokesman for school issues, the labor market and housing.

Neururer was a member of the Bregenz-Vorloster gymnastics association and in 1946 Vorarlberg regional champion over 5,000 meters. From 1945 he was a member of the Association of Socialist Academics and from 1955 a member of Vorarlberg's Friends of Nature. He held the deputy state chairman of the union of public employees and was elected deputy chairman of the Bregenz pensioners' association in April 2004.

Private

Neururer was born the son of the railroad worker Edmund Neururer (1897–1979) and his wife Paula (1899–1968), née Neuwirth. He married Anni Helmers on August 20, 1949 and had two daughters, born in 1949 and 1953 respectively. He died on October 11, 2014 in his hometown of Bregenz at the age of 88.
