history

The cooperation between the eight municipalities began in 1982 with the aim of preventing negative institutions in the member municipalities. In the meantime, the NordAllianz has become an action alliance with the aim of upgrading the economic and living space north of Munich.

For example, the Northern Alliance has spoken out across party lines against the Munich Transrapid project .

Following the example of the Northern Alliance, a "Western Alliance" was founded in 2011 from six municipalities to the west of Munich.

Importance of the municipalities

Together, the eight municipalities have around 125,000 inhabitants (as of 2013) and are home to internationally significant companies with their German or European headquarters ( Microsoft , EADS , General Electric , Swiss Re , ProSiebenSat.1 , Allianz etc.). The strong economic area (highest economic power in Germany according to the study "Germany 2020" by the Berlin Institute for Population and Development, 2004) benefits from the proximity to the international airport Franz Josef Strauss as well as from the strengths of the individual industries represented in the NordAllianz. It is characterized by a diverse mix of industries with a focus on IT, high-tech, services, media, trade and logistics. A prime example is the media area, which is a well-known Munich media location in Ismaning and Unterföhring.

The main focus of employment is in trade and transport as well as in the service sectors. More than 55,000 people or 78% of all gainfully employed people are employed in these economic sectors. 21% of employees work in the manufacturing industry.

The joint marketing also relates to the areas of science and residential locations. The eight municipalities can also refer to several facilities of the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich and the Technical University of Munich , the Schleissheim palace complex and various recreational, leisure, cultural and shopping opportunities.
