The Northern Province ( French Province Nord ) is one of three provinces of New Caledonia . It includes the northern part of the island of Grande Terre as well as the islands offshore to the north (including the Belep Islands ). The seat of government is Koné .
In the provincial parliament, known as the Assemblée de Province , there are 22 popularly elected members, 15 of whom are also delegated to the New Caledonia Congress as mandataries in accordance with the Nouméa Agreement .
The province was formed on the basis of the Matignon Agreement in 1988 .

The municipality of Poya is part of both the Northern Province and the Southern Province . The Kouaoua parish was spun off from Canala parish in 1995 .
