North Salem is a city ( town ) in the northeastern part of Westchester County in the US state of New York .
The county is considered the second richest borough in New York State and the seventh richest in the United States .

The city is bordered to the north by Putnam County, New York and to the east by Connecticut . The city has an area of 59.3 square kilometers. Of this, 55.5 square kilometers are land and 3.8 square kilometers are water.
Demographics
The 2000 census counted 5173 residents, 1764 households and 1374 families. That makes a population density of 241.5 people per mile.
There were 39.2% children under the age of 18 living in 1764 households, 68.1% were married couples living together, 7.5% had a female head of the household without a husband, and 22.1% were non-families. 17.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.3% had people living who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.17.
