The Highway 5 , commonly also known as Fort Smith Highway referred to is a highway in the Canadian Northwest Territories .
It runs through Wood Buffalo National Park and connects Fort Smith with Hay River . Key roads also lead to Smith Landing , Fort Fitzgerald and Peace Point in Alberta . These roads form a circle through Wood Buffalo National Park. The residents of Fort Chipewyan have long asked the Alberta government to build a 50 km long road that will connect the community with the other spur roads.
