Nothobartsia is a plant genus in the family of Broomrape family (Orobanchaceae). The only two species occur only in south-western Europe .

description

Nothobartsia are perennial , herbaceous plants whose stems grow upright, usually branch out and lignify at the base. The leaves are ovate to elliptical in shape, 12 to 30 mm long and 4 to 17 mm wide. The leaf margins are curled and notched to toothed. The leaves and the calyx are covered with up to 0.4 mm long, glandular and stalked trichomes .

The flowers are accompanied by bracts , the entire margins of which are significantly smaller than the leaves and are densely arranged. The flower stalks are short and directed upwards. The calyx is tubular and bell-shaped and divided into narrow triangular calyx tips up to half the length. The crown is divided into a corolla tube, helmet and lower lip. The corolla tube is significantly longer than the chalice and helmet. The helmet is formed by the two corolla lobes of the upper lip that are fused together; it has entire margins and is somewhat longer or exactly as long as the lower lip. It is hairy with glandular trichomes 0.05 to 0.2 mm in length. The lower lip is divided into three lobes and is ribbed twice. The tips are rectangular to ovoid and rounded or triangular at the tip. The stamens are papilla ; the anthers are at right angles to the stamens, are hairy white bearded and prickly at the base. The counters only open in the outer (distal) area to 3/4 to 4/5 of the length. The pollen grains are 34 to 37 × 35 to 40 µm in size, the pollen grain wall (exine) is sculptured retipilat. The stylus is straight and curved downwards at the tip. The scar is almost heady.

The capsule fruits covered with bristles are obovate and 2.1 to 3.2 times as long as they are wide. The capsule fruits contain 24 to 32 (rarely up to 38) hanging seeds . The seeds are spindle-shaped with a length of 2 to 2.5 millimeters and a width of 0.7 to 1 millimeters. The seeds are long winged narrow and the wings are 0.1 to 0.25 millimeters wide.

Systematics and distribution

The distribution area of the two species is in southwestern Europe .

Taxonomy

The genus Nothobartsia was established in 1992 by Markus Bolliger and Ulf Molau . The two species were previously mostly assigned to the Bartsia . The generic name Nothobartsia honors the German doctor and botanist Johann Bartsch (1709–1738). The type species is Nothobartsia aspera (bread.) Bolliger & Molau .

External system

The genus Nothobartsia differs from the Bartsia by the non-glandular, multi-branched stalk, the elongated inflorescences with the bracts , which are different from the leaves, and by the shape of the capsules, which contain pendent, narrow-winged seeds. The genus differs from the also closely related genus of the tooth rust ( Odontites ) by the broader leaves and the pollen grain surface. The genus differs from the eye reliefs ( Euphrasia ) by the whole-rimmed helmet of the flowers.

Internal system

Two types are distinguished within the genus Nothobartsia :

  • Nothobartsia aspera (bread.) Bolliger & Molau (syn .: Euphrasia aspera bread. , Bartsia aspera (bread.) Lange , Bartsia asperrima (explosive.) Samp. )
  • Nothobartsia spicata (Ramond) Bolliger & Molau (Syn .: Bartsia spicata Ramond )
