Nowe Skalmierzyce (German 1908–20 Neu Skalmierschütz , 1940–43 Neu Skalden , 1943–45 Kalmen ) is a small town in Poland in the powiat Ostrowski in the Greater Poland Voivodeship .
The population of Nowe Skalmierzyce is about 4800. Until 2009, the city was the seat of the town-and-country municipality Nowe Skalmierzyce .
Attractions
The old town of Nowe Skalmierzyce is rich in sights. These include:
- the Corpus Christi Church ( kościół Bożego Ciała ) built between 1925 and 1927
- the neo-baroque former Protestant Church of Our Lady ( kościół Najświętszej Marii Panny Nieustającej Pomocy ) from the beginning of the 19th century
- the 1873 remodeled St. Catherine's Church ( kościół św. Katarzyny ) from 1791 in the district of Skalmierzyce
- the neo-Gothic train station built between 1904 and 1909
- the monument of the Wielkopolska insurgents
- the memorial of the fallen aviators for Karol P. Gębik, Franciszek Jakusz-Gostomski, Ludwik H. Misiak, Wiktor Jabłoński, Kazimierz Pacut, Zdzisław Kuczkowski and Henryk Fojer who died on September 15, 1943 in the crash of a Halifax bomber (No. JD154) of the British Air Force were killed in Nowe Skalmierzyce
