From 2018 the line between Łódź and Zduńska Wola is to be renovated and modernized, the top speed is to be increased to one hundred and twenty kilometers per hour.

history

The Glogau - Sagan section was opened in autumn 1848 by the Lower Silesian Branch , on December 30, 1857 the Lissa - Glogau section was opened by the Breslau-Posen-Glogau Railway , with the Oder crossing in Glogau not being opened until May 18, 1858. This was followed on December 31, 1871 by the Sagan – Sorau section of the Lower Silesian-Märkische Railway , which was extended on June 30, 1872 by the Halle-Sorau-Gubener Railway to Forst (Lausitz) .

The private railways were nationalized and on October 1, 1888, the Ostrowo –Lissa line opened as a state railway. The Ostrowo– Skalmierzyce section was first opened as a circular railway on February 14, 1896, but then it was extended by the state and by the Warsaw- Kalisch Railway on October 28, 1906 to Kalisch in the then Russian Empire, which has had a broad-gauge connection since 1902 thanks to the same company 1524 millimeters gauge at Łódź and Warsaw .

Between 1875 and 1912 the German part and the Russian part of the line were expanded to two tracks until 1912. In 1914 there were direct trains from Berlin and Breslau to Kalisch.

Eurocity Waweł in Żary (2008)

After the First World War , the German-Polish border ran behind Fraustadt , Russia no longer had any share; After the Second World War , the entire area of the line was added to Poland, and so the line came to the Polish State Railways , albeit partially without a second track, which was gradually rebuilt, except for the sections Głogów - Żagań and Żary - Forst (Lausitz ), which remain single track.

The line between Łódź and Zduńska Wola has been fully electrified since November 27, 1965 , from June 2, 1973 to Sieradz , from September 30, 1975 to Ostrów Wielkopolski and from September 24, 1987 to Krotoszyn . The second track between Głogówko and Głogów was taken out of service around 2001.

On February 1, 2002 the passenger traffic Głogów – Żagań was stopped, which was temporarily operated again from 2006–2010, on December 11, 2011 the passenger traffic Leszno – Głogów was stopped. The latter was resumed on December 15, 2019.

Long-distance traffic is still operated between Łódź and Ostrów Wielkopolski, between Żary and Forst (Lausitz) there has been none since the Waweł ( Kraków -) WrocławHamburg Eurocity was discontinued when the timetable changed in December 2014. Only two pairs of local trains run across the national border and, since May 2016, the Berlin – Wroclaw cultural train has been running on weekends and certain public holidays .
