The Catholic parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (Assumption of the Virgin) in La Puebla de Fantova , a place in the municipality of Graus in the province of Huesca of the Spanish Autonomous Community of Aragon , was built in the style of the late 16th and early 17th centuries Renaissance built. In 2004 the church was declared a Bien catalogado del patrimonio cultural aragonés (listed Aragonese cultural property).

Exterior construction

The church is made of quarry stone masonry and reinforced at the corners by larger ashlar stones. It consists of a single ship , which by a gable roof is covered, a polygonal choir with pyramidal roof and four side chapels. Two other rooms are used as sacristies .

The tower is built over the north-western chapel. Its square basement is made of quarry stone, the two upper, pentagonal floors are made of ashlar and are crowned by an octagonal pyramid. The bell storey is pierced by large, arched sound openings .

The portal on the west facade is framed by pilasters , on whose capitals a profiled entablature rests. The pilasters have a floral decoration, the gussets are decorated with arabesques and rosettes . A framed niche is cut into the wall above the portal, in which a relief with a crucifix is attached. The west facade is broken in the middle by a round window.

The three-bay interior is covered by star vaults with large carved and painted keystones . The two eastern side chapels are vaulted by pendent domes. The dome of the northern chapel is decorated only in its spandrels with a gold-framed stucco decoration and framed coat of arms cartouches . The dome of the southern chapel, on the epistle side , is richly painted. Mainly petals are depicted, but also birds and putti heads . The two western chapels also have a square floor plan, but are smaller. They are covered by simple ribbed vaults, the ribs of which rest on consoles carved with religious motifs and mythological characters . The western end of the nave is a wooden gallery , the parapet of which is carved.
