Nurlan Sauranbayev

Nurlan Jermekuly Sauranbajew ( Kazakh Нұрлан Ермекұлы Сауранбаев , Russian Нурлан Ермекович Сауранбаев ; born May 20, 1967 in Jambul , Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh politician.

Life

Saranbayev studied at the Kazakh State University in Alma-Ata , where he graduated in 1991 with a degree in economics. In 2016 he graduated from the Kazakh National University of Defense in Astana .

After graduating, Saranbayev initially worked in various companies before he joined several state-owned companies in 1998. He was the director of the passenger transport division of Kazakhstan Temir Scholy . Between 2000 and 2002 he was the first vice president of the Atyrau oil refinery and then from 2002 to 2004 he was department head of the Kazakh oil company KazMunayGas . He then was General Manager of TenizService between 2004 and 2007. In June 2007 he got another position as managing director of a division at KazMunayGas and between November 2010 and June 2011 he was on the board. On May 18, 2011, he was appointed Deputy Minister for Industry and New Technologies. He held this position for around three years before becoming Deputy Minister of Defense on August 14, 2014. He was released from this post in October 2016. Saranbayev was entrusted with the organization, preparation and implementation of the Expo 2017 in Astana. On November 7th, 2017 he was appointed Äkim (Mayor) of the city of Shymkent . After the city was promoted to a city of national importance in June 2018, he was dismissed as mayor and replaced by his predecessor Ghabidolla Äbdirachymow on June 20, 2018 .
