Surgical manual

2nd edition (1999)

The surgical manual is a reference work and textbook for nursing staff in the surgical service. Six editions have appeared so far.

development

The book was based on notes from two teaching nurses at the Altona General Hospital . Rüdiger Döhler published it as a book at Springer . In 1995 the operating manual was published. Basics, instruments, surgical procedure . The editors were the two surgical nurses Irmengard Middelanis-Neumann and Margret Liehn and the senior physicians Steinmüller and Döhler. The eleven chapters of the 1st edition dealt with the fundamentals of working in the operating theater , with visceral surgery , trauma surgery , vascular surgery , shunts and port catheters , thoracic surgery , gynecology , urology , neurosurgery , oral and maxillofacial surgery and ear, nose and throat medicine . Naturally, the book got bigger and bigger. The number of pages grew from 446 to 786, the number of chapters to 17. Topics have been added to cardiac surgery , pediatric surgery , ophthalmology , burns , plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery as well as organ removal . Wolfgang Teichmann , Petra Ebbeke and Axel Ekkernkamp wrote forewords. The 7th edition is being prepared and, like the 6th, will be provided by Margret Liehn and Brigitte Lengersdorf. Hartwig Bauer takes over the patronage . The book, which is no longer “handy”, is aimed at nurses in the surgical service and surgical technicians . It is also read by medical students and young doctors. Most of the authors still come from hospitals in Hamburg.
