The OTE television tower , named after the Greek telecommunications company OTE , is an architecturally atypical, 76 meter high television tower on the exhibition grounds in Thessaloniki , which was designed by Dimitriadis. The television tower designed by the Greek architect Alexandros Anastasiadis is one of the landmarks of the city of Thessaloniki . The TV tower is owned by TIF-Helexpo, which leases it to OTE. In addition to its radio-technical purpose and its use as a viewing and restaurant tower, the tower also serves as a pavilion on the exhibition grounds .
After the 108 meter high Parnitha transmission tower, the OTE television tower is the second highest in Greece .
history
Even before the official completion of the OTE television tower on August 7, 1966, namely on February 23, 1966, the first transmission of the Greek state television Elliniki Radiofonia Tileorasi took place from this tower .
In 2005 the tower was extensively renovated.
description
At the OTE television tower, a total of four tower baskets with a twelve-sided floor plan protrude along the entire tower shaft . They are all designed in different prism-shaped variations.
The first single-storey tower cage just above the base of the tower is used as a warehouse. The second basket with two rows of high window glazing serves as the exhibition pavilion. The third tower cage contains the installations for the transmission technology. The revolving restaurant is housed in the tall tower cage, which also has the largest diameter . The restaurant rotates once every 45 minutes. In addition to the stairwell, there is also an elevator in the tower shaft . The staircase leads up to the fourth pulpit in 166 steps.
Above the revolving restaurant there is a small truncated cone-like pulpit to which the approximately 30 meter high antenna support is attached. The structure of the antenna support tapers towards the tip. The height of the structure without antenna supports is around 45 meters.
reception
In 1985, the Greek Post issued a special stamp on the occasion of the 2300th anniversary of the city of Thessaloniki, on which three sights of the city can be seen, one of which is the OTE television tower. The brand has a face value of 95 Lepta .
