Oberaltertheim is a district of the Altertheim community in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg .

Geographical location

Oberaltertheim is located in the northeast of the Altertheim municipality. Further north is the community-free Irtenberger Wald , behind which the area of the community Waldbrunn begins . The northeast is occupied by the Würzburg-West motorway triangle on the Eisingen district . To the east and south-east lies the Großrinderfelder district of Gerchsheim in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg. Unteraltertheim can be found in the west, connected by the state road St 2297 . The Franconian Marienweg leads through Oberaltertheim .

history

For a long time the village of Oberaltertheim was part of the Grafschaft Castell , which was able to acquire large estates around Remlingen . The counts also introduced the Reformation into their possessions between 1521 and 1524 , so that Oberaltertheim is still predominantly Lutheran today. On July 28, 1825, the entire village burned down and had to be rebuilt in painstaking work. Since the acute housing shortage had to be eliminated first, the church was only built on the edge of the village in 1828.

Architectural monuments

Protestant church

Today the place has a large number of architectural monuments , all of which date back to the time after the great fire of 1825. The rectory and the parish church date from 1828 and can both be attributed to classicism . Two war memorials for those who fell in the German War of 1866 and the First World War have been preserved. In the center of the village there is a house built in 1826 with a typical Franconian gate.
