Steinbach is a district of the Altertheim community in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg .
Geographical location
Steinbach is located in the extreme southwest of the Altertheim municipality on the Altbach, which is called Welzbach here . The district of Unteraltertheim begins in the north and north-east and is connected to Steinbach via the St 2297 state road. To the west is the Am Niederhofen settlement. The Steinbacher district protrudes far into the south of Baden-Württemberg, where the hamlet of Quelläcker is located . West of the village, the district begins the Werbacher hamlet Wenkheim in Main-Tauber-Kreis in Baden-Wuerttemberg.
history
Steinbach was initially created as a manor that belonged to the Magdeburg Abbey . In the 14th century the estate was the center of the village. In 1414 the Knights von Wenkheim acquired the place and the manor lost its role as a manor. In 1589, Count Heinrich IV zu Castell bought the village. Steinbach became part of the Remlinger Landesportion of the Grafschaft Castell. Until the beginning of the 19th century, the place remained part of the county.
The Counts of Castell probably also introduced the Reformation in Steinbach. Count Heinrich IV succeeded in convincing the Catholic Würzburg Cathedral Chapter to transfer the pastoral care of his new acquisition to the Protestant pastor of Unteraltertheim. At that time there was a small chapel in the place. The Counts of Castell also introduced comprehensive village regulations, some of which were very modern.
Architectural monuments
There are no more remains of the former medieval chapel, the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation has classified the underground remains as a ground monument . The street name "Schloßberg" refers to the mansion, which is also no longer visible today. Architectural monuments in the village are an old bridge from the 18th century and a gatehouse from 1852. There are also two houses from the 19th century, one of which was mentioned as an inn.
