Helmut Haberkamm (born December 3, 1961 in Dachsbach in Middle Franconia) is a German writer in East Franconian dialect and song translator from English into Franconian, who lives in Spardorf in the Middle Franconian district of Erlangen-Höchstadt .

Life

Haberkamm grew up on his parents' farm in Dachsbach im Aischgrund . He studied English , American and German in Erlangen and Swansea (Wales) and graduated in 1991 with a doctoral thesis on contemporary poetry in Great Britain. Haberkamm then worked as a teacher, since 2001 at the Emil-von-Behring-Gymnasium in Spardorf. In order to be able to realize his varied and extensive projects as a writer and dialect poet and inspirer, he put his activity as a high school teacher on hold for five years. In February 2019 he returned to active school service at the Christian Ernst Gymnasium in Erlangen.

For his successful debut volume Frankn lichd nedd am Meer from 1992 he received the Bavarian Art Prize in 1993 in the literature category for his novel dialect poetry. Since then he has written several volumes of poetry and plays in East Franconian dialect, making him one of the most important Franconian dialect authors, which has been recognized by numerous other awards, including the cultural promotion prize of the Middle Franconia district (1999) and the Franconian cube of the three Franconian government districts (2008). In the laudatory speech given by Thomas Bauer , the district president of Middle Franconia at the award of the Franconian cube, there are not only details about his life and work but also two poems on the Aaschgrund and Idendidäd that are characteristic of Haberkamm .

Haberkamm prefers his native dialect in his volumes of poetry and theater pieces because he considers it to be more personal, more intimate, more concrete, more spontaneous and more direct than standard German for his subject matter. Since 2000, puppet theater pieces have also been created in collaboration with Stefan Kügel , which are repeatedly performed in the Kuckucksheim Theater in Heppstädt.

Haberkamm has also published short stories and essays and is text author for Bayerischer Rundfunk in collaboration with Studio Franken.

With his first novel Das Kaffeehaus im Aischgrund , Haberkamm set a literary monument to his home region. The work, published in 2016, is written in standard German. Haberkamm prefers standard German as a narrator.

Helmut Haberkamm received the City of Erlangen's Culture Prize 2018. According to Erlangen's Lord Mayor Florian Janik , his work creates a feeling of home and identity. But it is not meant to exaggerate or delimit. Franconian at it's best!

The Small Collection of Franconian Villages by Helmut Haberkamm and Annalena Weber was voted the most beautiful regional book in Germany in 2019 by the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels in cooperation with the Book Art Foundation .

Franconian MundArt Festival "Edzerdla"

As an inspirer, organizer and participating poet, Haberkamm is the spiritus rector of Edzerdla, the Franconian MundArt festival with dialect artists from literature, music, theater, cabaret and cabaret. The 1st Franconian MundArt Festival was organized on June 18 and 19, 2016 by the city of Burgbernheim on the Kapellenberg, with 70 artists and 150 participants. The extensive program was presented to around 3600 visitors on three stages.

On June 16 and 17, 2018, the Franconian MundArt Festival Edzerdla took place for the second time on the picturesque Kapellenberg with 40 stage performances.

On July 1, 2018 which gave Franconian Confederation , the Swiss franc coin in 2018 to Helmut Haberkamm. He received this honor in particular for his great services in establishing Edzerdla, combined with the hope that the Franconian Woodstock, unlike the legendary Woodstock Festival, will become a long-runner.
