Gunzenhausen District Office

The Gunzenhausen Oberamt was one of the fifteen senior offices with which the Principality of Ansbach organized the administration of its territorial property. It was located in the south-western area of the principality and, like this, was territorially highly fragmented.
The neighboring territories of the top office at the end of the 18th century were mainly to Ornbau , gap and Eichstaett -lying areas of high pin Eichstaett and located in the northeast of imperial rule Heideck who Neuburg belonged. In between was the territory around Ellingen , which was subject to the Teutonic Order . Some areas immediately adjacent to the Reich also bordered the Oberamt, the largest of which was the Pappenheim rule .
