Oberlin is a small town in Lorain County in the US state of Ohio , about 40 miles southwest of Cleveland . It had 8,286 inhabitants in a 2010 census. The settlement was how the local eponymous Oberlin College , 1833 of two Presbyterian established clergy and after in Alsace social reform working Pastor John Frederick Oberlin named.
In addition to the college, there is another important employer, the Federal Aviation Administration , which operates an important air traffic control center here, whose air surveillance extends as far as Canada .
The head of the city is a city manager who is supported by a seven-member municipal council elected every two years.
