Oberthal is about 1.5 km northeast of the main town Unterassling.

The village is located in the Pustertal and in the valley of the Thal brook that flows through the village.

Filial church St. Ulrich

In the village there is the catholic branch church St. Ulrich, which belongs to the parish Unterassling. The exact age and year of construction are not known. The Gothic architectural style of the church indicates that it was built around 1400. The baroque high altar was built in 1668. It dominates the furnishings . In addition to three post-war bells, there is also a historically significant bell from 1697 in the tower.
