The hamlet of Obsee is part of the municipality of Lungern in the canton of Obwalden .

geography

Obsee is located at the southern end of the Lungerersee , southwest of the village center of Lungern. The Lauibach flows through Obsee and flows into the lake. The hamlet of Obsee is not administratively or politically delimited from Lungern, so the boundaries are not precisely defined. In the narrower sense, Obsee consists of the closed built area on the lake. The Wichel residential district in the west, the Walchi commercial district in the southwest and the Chnewis commercial district in the southeast can therefore also be counted as Obsee.

history

In 1708 a big fire raged in Obsee, 46 houses and the chapel were affected.

Attractions

Obsee is considered to be the best-preserved part of the village of Lungern. Here you can still find old houses in their original arrangement. The St. Beat chapel in Obsee dates from 1567. When the St. Beatus caves on Lake Thun were no longer accessible to Catholic pilgrims after the Reformation, this chapel was built in Obsee to honor St. Beat . The almost square original building of 4.5 by 4.25 meters stood on the site of today's choir. In 1599 the chapel was expanded for the first time by adding a ship to the original building. After the fire of 1708, the nave and choir were increased. The baroque high altar contains an altarpiece from the early 18th century depicting St. Represents beat with the dragon. Next to it are the statues of Mary with the Child and Bishop Nikolaus von Myra . The Trinity is depicted in the upper leaf of the altar . The antependium with the depiction of the Annunciation and the Visitation of the Virgin bears the donors' inscription: “Herr Johann Joseph Amgarten des Rahts. Mr. Capellenvodt Jacob Amgarten, 1716 ».

The villagescape of Obsee is classified in the inventory of protected sites in Switzerland (ISOS) as a site of national importance in Switzerland.

Economy and tourism

There is a campsite right by the lake and the valley station of the Lungern-Turren-Bahn cable car is on the outskirts of Obsee .

In the small industrial area south of Obsee, there are several specialist companies, such as Gasser Felstechnik and companies for film processing and roof window production. In the adjoining rock is Brünig Indoor , an underground shooting range and restaurant.

The district borders on Brünigstrasse ( Hauptstrasse 4 ). In the main town of Lungern there is a stop for the Zentralbahn . The Way of St. James from Stans via Flüeli-Ranft runs through Obsee and over the Brünig Pass on to Interlaken .
