The Ocean Mist (ex Royal Star , Ocean Islander , City of Andros and San Giorgio ) was a small cruise ship , depending on the number of cabins, designed for 200 to 256 passengers, which was launched in 1956 under the name San Giorgio . It was initially operated as a ferry by the Adriatic Line shipping company on regular routes between Italy, Piraeus , Istanbul and Izmir . In 1976 the ferry was sold to a Greek owner who had it converted into a cruise ship. The ship was then used under the name City of Andros from Piraeus on cruises in the Mediterranean .
The shipping company Ocean Cruise Lines purchased the ship in 1984 and christened it in Ocean Islander order. The Swiss travel group African Safari Club (ASC) took over the ship in 1990. It was then used by its subsidiary StarLine Cruise under the name Royal Star on cruises in the Indian Ocean from Mombasa ( Kenya ) . The German-speaking ship was under German / Swiss management. The majority of the 130-strong crew were Indonesians and Filipinos. The officers' posts were occupied by Greeks. In 1992 a major renovation took place, whereby the interior was modernized. The Royal Star then had 111 cabins and was designed to carry a maximum of 200 passengers.
After ASC went bankrupt, the ship was foreclosed in Mombasa in June 2009 and acquired by the Indian entrepreneur Alnoor Jiwan for the Indian Alba Petroleum Group . After modernization, it was named Ocean Mist from the end of 2009 . The ship was to be used from Mombasa on three-day mini cruises to Pemba and Zanzibar . However, the journeys proved to be unprofitable and were discontinued after a short period. In spring 2012, the ship was transferred to Alang (India), where the ship arrived on March 9, 2012 and was then scrapped.
