The Oesterholzer Bruch with Schwedenschanze is a nature reserve in Schlangen- Oesterholz in the Lippe district .

Characteristic

The nature reserve lies between Oesterholz in the north, Schlangen in the south, the Senne in the west and the Fürstenallee in the east.

Due to the Sternhofbach, which rises north of Jagdschloss Oesterholz and runs largely in its natural state through the break, large parts of the soil are permanently damp. This favors the growth of the black alder. The soil vegetation consists of sedges , marsh irises and marsh marigolds . In spring, large parts of the area are also covered with wood anemones. The Sternhofbach with its good water quality is discharged within the quarry into the throttle pond created for fish farming. The fish species bullhead, brown trout and brown lamprey can be found in the stream. The kingfisher gladly accepts the food available . The stream flows around the Schwedenschanze, a sand dune that has emerged in earlier times through drifts and in the Bronze Age to build mounds was used. At the southern end of the nature reserve is the Haverkampsee, which was created in the 1960s through gravel mining and is now home to numerous water bird species. The lake is fed by the Strothe . The draining water combines with the water of the Sternhofbach and flows through the Strothe-Niederung nature reserve just a little further south .

The numerous old trees, especially oaks and beeches in addition to alders, are habitat for woodpeckers, stock doves , dormice and bats.
