The Eastern Teutoburg Forest nature reserve lies in the area of ​​the communities of Augustdorf and Schlangen and the cities of Detmold , Lage and Oerlinghausen in the Lippe district in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is the second largest nature reserve in the district.

For Augustdorf, Detmold, Lage, Oerlinghausen and Schlangen, an area of ​​around 2325 hectares has been designated as a nature reserve since 2004 with the landscape plan No. 14 “Teutoburg Forest” under the identification number LIP-066.

The nature reserve overlaps with the bird sanctuary “Senne with Teutoburg Forest” and the FFH area “Eastern Teutoburg Forest”. In the urban area of Bielefeld there are three more, partly adjacent, nature reserves named "Eastern Teutoburg Forest" ( Eastern Teutoburg Forest (LP BI-Senne) , approx. 542 ha; Eastern Teutoburg Forest (LP BI-West) , approx. 403 ha ; Eastern Teutoburg Forest (LP Bielefeld-Ost) , approx. 59 ha), which were identified by other landscape plans.
