The Retlager Bach excavation areas are two nature reserves designated in 2006 by the Detmold regional council (NSG number LIP – 085 and –086) in the North Rhine-Westphalian cities of Lage and Detmold in the Lippe district in Germany .
location
The total of around 157 hectares (ha), including 145.26 hectares in Lage and 11.6 hectares in the Detmold area, large nature reserves Abgrabung Retlager Bach naturally belong to the Lipper Bergland . They extend south of the city center of Lagens in the area of the Müssener gravel works , between the state roads 944 in the northeast, 758 in the southeast and 945 in the southwest.

The Protected Areas Abgrabung Retlager Bach are described as areas with standing waters worthy of protection and endangered, backwaters with wood on one side of the banks, flat banks, shallow water zones and floating leaf vegetation, excavation waters with high herbaceous meadows , low-growth bank meadows, endangered woody structures and deciduous forests that are worthy of protection and endangered.
Protection purpose
The main protection purpose is the preservation, development and restoration of a regionally significant, near-natural, structurally rich biotope complex of flowing waters with accompanying alluvial forests and substitute communities and large still waters in the Werre-Hügelland landscape as a habitat for rare, endangered and typical species of flora and fauna.
