Oldenburg T 1

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The class T 1 steam locomotives of the Oldenburg State Railways were double-coupled tank locomotives for shunting and construction train service. There were two types of construction, of which the younger was still part of the Deutsche Reichsbahn as class 98.74 .

Type T 1

The first type, known as the T 1 , was developed in cooperation with the Krauss company in the company's own railway workshop. The 12 rather small locomotives built between 1871 and 1873 are among the few that were specially developed for the Oldenburg Railway. With an empty weight of 11.3 t, they had a length over buffers of 6,436 mm, a permissible boiler pressure of 10 bar and a permissible maximum speed of 40 km / h.

These locomotives (track numbers 47 to 62) were given names that seem bizarre, such as Schnipp, Schnapp, Schnurr, Tick, Tack or Tuck . They were taken out of service before the Deutsche Reichsbahn was founded.

Between 1888 and 1892, the Oldenburg State Railroad procured a further 18 double-coupled tank locomotives, which were designated as type T 1 2 . Instead of having to build it again, the machines were ordered from Hohenzollern AG in Düsseldorf. This sub-genus was also specially designed for the Oldenburg Railway.

Compared to the original version, the locomotives had a 2 bar higher boiler pressure, a 110 mm larger coupling wheel and a 5 mm larger cylinder diameter. The top speed was increased to 45 km / h. The cramped driver's cab had a roof that sloped to the front and back, in contrast to the usual design.

Five copies of this type were taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn as 98 7401-98 7405. The last two locomotives were retired in 1933.
