history

Welschenburg was formed in the 13th century as the center of an administrative district in the Duchy of Pomerania . This district came to the Margraviate of Brandenburg in 1284, initially as a pledge . In 1297, however, the margraves gave Dramburg, north of Welschenburg, city rights, thereby overtaking Welschenburg.

In 1320 Welschenburg was one of the places that the Pomeranian Duke Wartislaw IV gave to the nunnery in Pyritz as equipment for a new monastery to be founded in Dramburg. The monastery was not founded, however.

Welsch castle belonged to 1815 as part of the circle Dramburg to Neumark . As part of the reorganization of the administrative structure in the Prussian state after the Congress of Vienna, the district of Dramburg and thus also Welschenburg was reclassified into the province of Pomerania . Until 1945 Welschenburg formed a rural community in the Dramburg district of the Prussian province of Pomerania. Besides Welschenburg, there were no other places to live in the community.

After the Second World War, Welschenburg, like all of Western Pomerania, came to Poland. It received the Polish place name "Oleszno".
