Oliver Kessler

Oliver Kessler (born October 16, 1973 in Karlsruhe ; actually Oliver Alexander Edler von Hayek-Keßler ) is a German political scientist and university professor .

Life

After graduating from high school, Kessler began studying economics and political science at the University of Munich in 1994, graduating in 1999 with a degree in economics . Kessler worked for Friedrich Kratochwil during his studies . This was followed by a Master of Arts in International Political Economy at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom , which he graduated in 2000. He then returned to Munich, where he began his doctorate with a scholarship from the Free State of Bavaria , which he completed in 2004 as a Ph.D. completed. During his doctorate he spent a few months at Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Law School and from 2002 to 2003 at the Castrén Institute for International Law at the University of Helsinki . After successfully completing his doctorate, Kessler switched to the Institute for World Society at Bielefeld University as a post-doctoral student , before he was appointed to the university's academic council for international relations in 2005 . There he received his habilitation in 2009 with a thesis on International Relations and the Problem of World Society .

From 2008 various substitute professorships followed, such as 2008/2009 in Bielefeld for political sociology, 2009/2010 at the University of Munich for international political theory and 2010/2011 at the University of Erfurt for international relations. In the 2011/2012 winter semester, Kessler accepted a professorship for History and Theory of International Relations at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands ; Among other things, a bachelor's degree in international relations was established there in connection with his chair in 2014 . He is also an international scholar at Kyung Hee University in South Korea .

Kessler is married to Sophie von Hayek.

The main focus of research is international relations, in particular international political economy .
