Oliver Kostic

Oliver Kostić (born February 20, 1973 in Pirot ) is a Serbian basketball coach .

Life

As a player, Kostić was on the field between 1988 and 1996, first for KK Bosna Sarajevo , then for Winner Broker Niš. In 1997 he took up the coaching position at the Yugoslav second division club KK Alfa Niš, where he stayed until 2001 and then worked for KK Pirot (also second division). In the 2003/04 season Kostić was employed as an assistant coach at the German Bundesliga club Mitteldeutscher BC and won the FIBA Europe Cup with the team . In 2004/05 he was part of the coaching staff of Henrik Dettmann at BS Energy Braunschweig in the Bundesliga, in the summer break of 2005 Kostić moved to Virtus Rome in Italy, where he became Svetislav Pesić's assistant . 2007/08 Kostić was Pesić's assistant coach at Dynamo Moscow , from 2008 to 2010 at Red Star Belgrade (again under Pesić) and from 2010 at Žalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania . In 2013 he left Kaunas and took the position of head coach for the Bulgarian first division club Lukoil Akademik Sofia for the 2013/14 season . In November 2013 he was released after four defeats in a row in Sofia.

In 2014 Kostić moved to FC Bayern Munich , where he was coach of the second men's team and the U19 youth team. He led the latter team to win the German championship in spring 2015 and was then named coach of the year in the youth basketball league . In the 2015/16 season, FC Bayern Munich II rose under Kostić as champions of the 1st Regionalliga-Südost in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB . He looked after the team until the end of the 2017/18 season, after which he worked exclusively as an assistant coach for the Munich professionals, after he had already worked as his assistant for the Bundesliga team after Dejan Radonjić was signed in April 2018. He was an assistant coach on the Houston Rockets' staff during the 2019 NBA Summer League . When FC Bayern Munich parted ways with Radonjić in January 2020, Kostić was promoted to head coach. At the Bundesliga season-end tournament, which was held in Munich in June 2020 to determine the German champions after the forced break due to the spread of Covid-19 , he was eliminated with FC Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals. In July 2020 he was replaced by Andrea Trinchieri as Bayern's head coach.
