Career

Martinsson, who started for the Koskullskulle AIF club, made his international debut at the age of 18 in the 1962/63 Four Hills Tournament , where he came in 35th overall. A year later at the Four Hills Tournament in 1963/64 he only reached rank 73 in the overall ranking. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , Martinsson started in both individual disciplines. He achieved 32nd place on the normal as well as the large hill. At only 19 years old, he was the youngest ski jumper in the Swedish team and, together with six other athletes, also the youngest skier in Sweden. Only Gunilla Jacobsson was younger .

In the Four Hills Tournament 1964/65 Martinsson was able to improve significantly and at the end of the tour landed in 26th place in the overall ranking. Despite this increase, he did not appear in the following year. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1966 , Martinsson was still part of the squad and jumped from the normal hill to 44th and from the large hill to 20th.

His last Four Hills Tournament in 1968/69 was Martinsson's most successful tour. Already in the opening competition on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf he jumped to a good 19th place. On the Great Olympic Hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he achieved his best individual result on a tour with 13th place. On the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck he reached rank 17, before finishing the tour with rank 21 on the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze in Bischofshofen . In the overall ranking he reached 16th place.

Martinsson now lives in Gällivare .
