The 5000-meter team race of the men at the Olympic Games 1900 in Paris on 22 July 1900 at the Croix Catelan decided. Two teams took part in the competition. All 10 participants completed a regular 5000 meter run . For the team ranking, the number of places achieved were added up.

The British selection included the Australian Stan Rowley, whose homeland was still part of the British Empire at the time. Rowley was actually a sprinter for whom the 5000-meter distance was way too long. He was accepted into the team to achieve the required team strength of five runners. Rowley only ran one lap at racing pace and then walked on at a slower pace. When the penultimate runner crossed the finish line, he had only covered 3500 meters. His placement in tenth and last was thus certain, the jury allowed him to finish the race at this point and leave him in the ranking. If the current rules had been applied, he would have been disqualified for a task - and with it his team - because he had not achieved the goal.

The numbers behind the names indicate the runner's position in the race. Bennett and Rimmer determined the action and led the field, which was closed except for Rowley, in 4:30 minutes at 1500 meters and in 9:20 minutes at 3000 meters. Then Tysoe, Robinson, Castanet and Champoudry lost touch. As a result, Bennett and Rimmer also set themselves apart from the other three French, they passed the 4000 meter mark in 12:30 minutes. On the last lap of Bennett, Rimmer also lost touch. The winning time is given in some sources as 15:20 minutes, which would have been a world record over 5000 meters, other sources give 15:29 minutes as the winning time.
