A rugby union tournament was held at the 8th Olympic Games in Paris in 1924 . The venue was the Stade Olympique in the suburb of Colombes .

There were only three participants: the defending champions USA , Romania and the hosts France . A total of 41,200 spectators, including 37,300 paying, watched the three games. After the decisive USA – France game, there were massive riots in which the supporters of the French team beat up numerous supporters of the USA. A storm could only be prevented by a large contingent of the gendarmerie and because of the precautionary reinforcement with barbed wire barriers.
