Ondrej Glajza

Ondrej Glajza (born March 22, 1966 in Poprad ) is a former Slovak cyclist and world champion in cycling .

Athletic career

In 1982 he won the Czech Cup for beginners in cyclo-cross racing (in 1984 he also won it in the juniors ). A year later he started for the national team at the Junior World Championships. He also competed in road races at the same time, winning the juniors' peace run in 1984 . In 1984 he became junior world champion in cyclo-cross racing, which became his specialty. In 1986 he became national champion for the first time before Peter Hric . Another title followed in 1988. He also remained successful in road races, in 1986 he won the Uniqua-Classic stage race in Austria . He had his greatest sporting success with the victory at the UCI World Championships in cross-country races for amateurs in 1989, when he won in front of his compatriot Radomír Šimůnek . In 1990 he became a professional driver . He drove twice in the world championships in this class, was 27th in 1990 and 13th in the races in 1991. In 1997 he won the national championship again, now in the elite class.

He has a son of the same name who, as a cyclist, also became a specialist in cyclo-cross races and mountain biking .
