René De Clercq

René De Clercq (born March 16, 1945 in Compiègne ; † January 1, 2017 in Oudenaarde ) was a Belgian cyclist and world champion in cycling .

Athletic career

De Clercq began his career as a road driver . Later he turned to the cyclo-cross race , where he also achieved his most significant successes. In 1969 he won the world title among amateurs in this discipline in Magstadt before Roger de Vlaeminck ; In 1971 he won the bronze medal among the professional drivers . Several times he stood on the podium at the Belgian championships in cyclo-cross racing, but without winning the title. From 1970 to 1976 he drove as a professional driver
